Welcome December!

Yesterday's beautiful sunset was purely inspirational. The color, texture of the clouds, dramatic wisps with black silhouettes in the forground. It was striking but mostly, it stirred me. I ran to get my camera before it was gone. At first all I could do was curse the electrical lines that interfered with the view. But then, I stopped and realized, they are part of life, it is the reason I am here on this computer, electric is everywhere. It takes away from a view but it enhances so much of our lives. So, the power lines remain in my photo!

It is December! I am a person that violently refuses to give in to the coming of fall. I love spring and summer. I love the rebirth and new life that spring brings. I love the easier, more relaxed feelings of summer. Fall makes me think of dark days and bitter cold nights ahead. Somewhere around Halloween I finally give in to fall and suddenly, I embrace it! I love the colors, the fresh crisp air, the cooler brisker days. Then one day I wake up to Christmas music on the radio and I am surprisingly happy! I love Christmas! It makes me feel happy, joyous and grateful. My daughter is 9 and still believing. We stand on a precipice of pre-teen years that will change so many things in our household. Today I cherish these lasting moments of innocence, sweetness and wonderful childhood!

I love so many things about the Christmas season. I love the music at church, the adopt a family that we participate in, I love teaching my daughter about receiving and swaying her against gross consumerism. We live a fairly simple life. As a single mom, we often have to scale down on things. But we make up for it in so many other ways. We spend time together, we make gifts for family, we buy gifts for our church's adopt a family and bring food for the local food pantry. We sing Christmas songs and decorate our house. We go to local events in our teeny town like the tree lighting this Sunday. We make it happy, joyous, grateful and filled with good feeelings. Isn't that what it is all about anyway?

Now, back to the task at hand! I have added some new items to my Etsy shop including some new beach glass or sea glass jewelry. All of the glass was collected by my daughter and I on our wonderful little beach in our teeny town. I have recently received gifts of beach glass from friends as well. I also added some more recycled glass jewelry including some striking big glass hoop earrings. I have a few new items that are on their way to the kiln that I hope to post very soon.

A different view

On this cloudy day, I had to go back and look at a sunny picture. I live about a mile from the water. Our rocky north shore beach is quiet and serene. I find it is a place that encourages peacefulness, inspiration and meditative thinking. I love our beach. I moved last year and I am about 3/4 of a mile further from the beach. You would think that it wouldn't make any difference, but it does. I have to go out of my way to drive by the beach or stop there. Before it was always on the way.

So I am enjoying my photo of our beach, a brigh sunny day, sailboats, trees on the hills, not quite beginning to change color. The beauty that surrounds us is easy to forget. How lucky we are to have this beauty! Today is an opportunity to feel grateful! I am grateful!

This morning I posted a few new things on my Etsy shop today. A line of contemporary kinetic jewelry. My favorite is called Seashore Breeze...wonder why. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=15842133

Enjoy your day!

Women's Expo

Today i participated in a Women's Expo. the purpose of this event is to promote women entrepreneurs. it was held at a huge library an hour east of my home. i awoke to my daughter feeling miserable from a back to school cold and trying to sort out the "what now!" i called my ex and he happily took my daughter for the day. PHEW! he isn't always so cooperative so it turned out well. the event itself was filled with cautious and conservative buyers. it was hard not to be discouraged. i choose not to be! i made a few good contacts for potential wholesale accounts as well as met some great crafters! the woman in the booth next to me was great. we talked all day long. by the time i left, we parted with a hug and felt like old friends. funny how situations put you in a position to meet someone that you feel you were meant to meet! we had a great day and took each other's card and plan to support each other as much as we can.

All in all, it was a positive experience. i saw numerous students from my glass classes that i have taught over the years, i saw someone i went to school with and hadn't seen in over 20 years ( i won't say how many years over 20 though!) and i saw other crafters from my town that i didn't know were participating in the event. mostly, i had a lot of positive experiences that made this a worthwhile event.

Tomorrow, if my daughter is not feeling too badly, i will follow up on one of the wholesale inquiries and i will continue to put some more work on my Etsy store.

don't forget to check back on monday! i am planning at least one weekly special. if all goes well, i will do more than one per week.

thanks for stopping by!

Some new stuff

I posted a few new things today. There is some more word jewelry. Dream is my favorite. Dream big! Dream of what can be. It is all within your reach. I am drawn to jewelry with inspirational sayings and words. It is a wonderful reminder how truly amazing we are. Permission to be great! What can be better than that?

The past few months I have been listening to Mike Dooley of TUT Enterprises http://tut.com/ I love his message, I love his upbeat way. Mostly I love the phrase he coined - "Thoughts become things. Choose the good ones!" I have a rubber bracelet that my life coach gave me. I have never taken it off since she gave it to me. My daughter has one as well. She never takes it off. She is prone to worrisome thoughts and anxiety. It is a great reminder to her that her thinking can make her feel better or worse, depending on what she chooses to think. It is helping. Here is a picture of her sporting her Thoughts become things bracelet.

Anyway, I was inspired by my bracelet and by Mike Dooley. I was inspired by the use of recycled materials in my work. I put the two together and have come up with my Word Jewelry.

All the word jewelry is available in blue, green, olive and brown glass. At the moment I only have posted some blue word jewelry. Send me a conversation on Etsy if you would like something in a different color.

Check back next week when I begin my specials.

Here is a peak at some of my Etsy offerings!

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog. I'm glad you stopped by. I am Jane, a self-employed single mom with a life that is both really busy and filled with new adventures! My 9 year old daughter is the greatest joy in my life. She is kind, caring, empathetic and filled with exuberance! We have a nice, though simple, life together. We have 3 cats, 2 mice and 2 goldfish that survived carnival life.

My blog here will be a place for me to showcase some of my glass art as well as show other artists I admire, life as a single mom, a little bit about where I live and whatever else may come up!

I hope you stop by often. I will be adding specials and highlight new items from my Etsy store so make sure you check for updates!
